How to Get to Panarea
Panarea is only accessible by sea. Here is all the information you need to plan your trip to the pearl of the Aeolian Islands.
By Sea
From Milazzo (Sicily)
Milazzo is the main port to reach the Aeolian Islands. Both hydrofoils (about 1h 30min / 2h 30min) and ferries (about 4h 10min) depart from here.

From Naples
During the summer season, direct connections are available by hydrofoil and ferry. The journey takes approximately 5 hours.

How to Reach Milazzo
By Plane
The nearest airports are Catania Fontanarossa (about 130 km) and Palermo Punta Raisi (about 210 km). Bus connections and car rentals are available from both.
By Train
Milazzo train station is well connected to Messina and Palermo. From the station, the port is reachable by taxi or shuttle bus.
By Car
A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, exit Milazzo. Supervised parking is available near the port.
Useful Tips
- • Book your ferry or hydrofoil tickets in advance, especially during high season (July-August).
- • Cars are not allowed on Panarea: be prepared to get around on foot or by electric golf cart.
- • Pack light to make disembarking easier.
- • Always check departure times, as they may vary depending on the season and weather conditions.
